IIT-H student dies by suicide in Vizag, upset over backlogs
Visakhapatnam: A 20-year-old second-year student of IIT-Hyderabad (IIT-H), who had gone missing from the Sangareddy campus since July 17, was found dead in Vizag on Tuesday. The student ended his life by jumping into the sea as he was depressed over his exam backlogs, police said.
Dhanavath Karthik might have drowned in the sea around July 19. The body was recovered on July 21 with the help of fishermen. Karthik’s father could not identify the body as it was fully decomposed.
Some police personnel who were searching for some papers or clues on his body found a mobile phone that was tucked in his underwear. Based on this, the police identified the body. On Mondday, they conducted a DNA test and the report came on Tuesday, confirming his identity.
“Karthik could not concentrate on studies and disappeared from the college and his home,” police commissioner Trivikram Varma told the media.
During the investigation, the victim's cellphone was last located at Ramakrishna Beach (RK Beach) in Visakhapatnam on July 19. There, he purchased a bun online. Later, as CCTV footage showed, he walked into the danger zone of the beach.
