Telangana rains: Red Alert In Hyderabad Today, 8 Districts On Alert For Two Days
Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rain with very intense spells of downpours at times in Hyderabad on Wednesday. The IMD issued a red alert for Hyderabad for today and for eight districts for the next two days. The city logged heavy rainfall of 7.9 cm within an hour on Monday evening.
A red alert was issued for Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahbubabad, Nizamabad and Khammam districts.
According to the Telangana State Development and Planning Society reports, Nizamabad and Jangaon districts logged extremely heavy rainfall of over 20 cm, with Velpur in Nizamabad clocking as much as 46.3 cm of rainfall in six hours, on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
After Velpur, the highest rainfall in the state was at Perkit, which received 33.1 cm, followed by Bheemgal, at 26.4 cm, Konasamunder, at 22.6 cm, and Jakranpally, at 22.2 cm.
Nizamabad has so far received 46.4 cm of rainfall this season, followed by Warangal, at 29.4 cm, and Jangaon, at 24.2 cm, as of 7 am on Tuesday.
In Hyderabad, the highest rainfall of 7.9 cm was recorded in Charminar, followed by 7.8 cm in Rajendranagar, and 7.3 cm each in Hayathnagar and Serlingampally till 8 am on Tuesday.
After a brief break, the city experienced moderate rainfall from late evening, with the IMD stating that the southwest monsoon had been vigorous over the state and multiple weather systems will contribute to very heavy rainfall in the state over the next three days.
According to the IMD, the low-pressure area had further intensified into a well-marked one, lying over west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal, off north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha. It will develop into a depression and move towards the Andhra Pardesh-south Odisha coasts in the next 24 hours.
The state will continue to experience moderate to heavy, accompanied by thundershowers and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph, in the week ahead.
In its impact-based forecast for rainfall over the next 24 hours, the IMD said that there was a flash-flood risk in Bhadradri Kothagudem, Asifabad, Mancherial, Peddapally, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Vikarabad, Jagtial and Medak.
