In a bid to bring the government closer to the people, the CPM-led ruling LDF dispensation in Kerala will hold regional review meetings across the state starting from Tuesday with the objective of making its development programmes more visible to the people besides resolving pending issues and expediting development works.
This is the first major evaluation of the implementation of major welfare schemes, infrastructure projects and law and order issues since the Pinarayi Vijayan government came to power in Kerala for the second consecutive time in 2021.
The meetings will be chaired by the chief minister and other ministers. The inaugural meeting will be held in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday followed by Thrissur, Ernakulam and Kozhikode on September 28, October 3 and 5 respectively. Besides development and governance-related matters, law and order issues would also figure prominently at these meetings to be attended by senior police officers of each district. The move gains significance in the wake of reports of increased activities of criminal gangs involved in drug trafficking, crime against women and involvement of migrant workers in heinous crimes including rape of minors.
Senior officials representing various departments will carry out spot assessment and evaluation of welfare schemes and implementation of infrastructure projects. The evaluation is aimed at the speedy redressal of people’s grievances and solutions to major development issues.
The government hopes to use the regional meeting platform to remove the lag in the administrative delivery of welfare mechanisms and stimulate the development process.
