UP dad-son fight a lesson for AP too, says Nara Lokesh

Nara Lokesh on Monday said he was not vying for a Cabinet berth.

GUNTUR: Telugu Desam national general secretary Nara Lokesh on Monday said he was not vying for a Cabinet berth. Speaking at Guntur TD general body meeting, Mr Lokesh said Cabinet positions created rift between father and son in Uttar Pradesh, referring to Akhilesh and Mulayam Yadav’s dispute.

Guntur TD president G.V. Anjaneyulu mooted a request on behalf of the district unit of the party to induct Mr Lokesh into the Cabinet with a portfolio that is crucial in capital building. As the Guntur Municipal Corporation is likely to get a new executive body in the next 2-3 months, Mr. Lokesh held a meeting with the party men. He told the party functionaries to take up the membership drive and organise Janachaitanya Yatras from Nov. 1. He claimed that TD is one among the few parties in the country which has a huge cadre.

He urged all the party leaders to work in coordinatoin for strengthening the party. He dismissed allegations that leaders coming from other parties were being given importance. Clarifying on the issue, he said 96 per cent of the party men were given positions and only 4 per cent from other parties were accommodated in different positions. Taking on the YSRC, he said the Opposition was trying to divide the state on caste and regional lines. He called upon the party cadre to publicise about the TD’s developmental programmes.
