Karnataka legislature not to sit on Nov 28 due to Oppn protest
Belagavi: The Karnataka legislature now in session in Belagavi will not have a sitting on Monday in the wake of the nationwide protest called by various parties against the demonetisation move of the central government.
The decision to suspend the legislature sitting on November 28 has been opposed by the principal opposition party BJP, which walked out of the Business Advisory Committee meeting on Friday.
The BAC of the Legislative Assembly that met under the Chairmanship of Speaker K B Koliwad decided to hold an extra day of session on December 3 for the loss on November 28. As per the schedule, the 10 day session that began on November 21 was to end on December 2.
"In the wake of Bharat Bandh on November 28, keeping in mind security of legislators attending the session and as the security personnel deployed at Suvarna Vikasa Soudha have to be redeployed at various places for bandobast in the wake of the bandh, it has been decided to hold November 28 sitting on December 3," Koliwad announced in the House.
Reiterating BJP's opposition to the move inside the Assembly, Opposition Leader Jagadish Shettar said, "We are against this decision. The session is to discuss various issues of north Karnataka. Government itself supporting such bandh is not a right move."
Similar scenes were seen in the Karnataka Legislative Council, where Chairman D H Shankaramurthy announced that the House would again meet on Tuesday and there would be no sitting on Monday. Leader of the Opposition K S Eshwarappa expressed his party's opposition to the move.
