Namakkal​: Village mourns as EB worker dies in hospital
Namakkal​: In a tragic end, one of the two electricity workers of the state power utility, Tangedco, from Namakkal district, who were injured while working to restore power lines in cyclone ‘Gaja’ hit Pudukkottai district, died on Saturday, plunging people of his native village in this district into utter grief.
The two workers - Murugesan (40) from Manuvakattupalayam village near Tiruchengode in Namakkal district, and another electricity worker, Mohan from Animur village in the district, had been working in Kalamavur area near Keeranur in Pudukkottai district in trying to restore electric poles and lines uprooted by the cyclone.
However, both workers were badly injured when they suffered a shock due to electricity leakage while working. Both Murugesan and Mohan were personally lifted by the Health minister, C. Vijayabaskar, while he was passing that side few days back and helped to be reached for critical care treatment at the government general hospital in Tiruchirappalli.
Murugesan, not responding to treatment, died on Saturday and after post-mortem at the Tiruchy GH, his body was brought to his native village of Manuvakattupalayam, where hundreds of people paid homage to the departed soul, praising his brave efforts in working in the cyclone-hit areas.
The Tiruchengode MLA, Pon. Saraswathi, state power utility, Tangedco engineer Sundararajan, other co-workers joined in the homage before Murugesan’s body was cremated at Mallasamudram electric crematorium. An amount of '25,000 released by Tangedco for meeting the cremation and other last rite expenses was handed over by the Tiruchengode MLA to deceased Murugesan’s kin. The other electricity board worker, Mohan, continues to be under treatment at Tiruchy GH.
