Asaduddin Owaisi to discuss CAA with KCR

The delegation will extend their gratitude to Mr Rao for opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB/CAA) in both houses of Parliament.

Hyderabad: A delegation of the United Muslim Action Committee (UMAC), led by Asaduddin Owaisi, member of Parliament, Hyderabad, and head of AIMIM, will call on Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao to discuss the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and NRC issues with him.

The delegation, to comprise of religious and Muslim community leaders, will meet the Mr Rao at Pragathi Bhavan, the CM’s official residence, on Wednesday at 1 pm.

Sources said the purpose of the meeting is to bring to the Chief Minister’s notice the concerns of Muslims regarding the proposed nationwide National Register of Citizens (NRC).

The delegation will extend their gratitude to Mr Rao for opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB/CAA) in both houses of Parliament.

The Muslim leaders will request Chief Minister Rao to publicly announce that the NRC will not be implemented in Telangana besides trying to convince him to explore legal options to challenge the amendments in Citizenship Act passed by Parliament. The delegation will voice its view that since the CAA was passed without consulting state governments, it can be legally challenged.
