AP Special Category Status row: Youth group team visits many colleges
Visakhapatnam: Ignoring the denial of permission and the warning from police, volunteers of the newly formed Andhra Youth continued their campaign for the silent protest on Special Category Status by visiting colleges and asking youths to participate in the protest.
There are reports that college students from other parts of the state are expected to reach Vizag on Thursday morning to take part in the protest on RK Beach. Some advocates have also pledged their support for Thursday's protest.
“It’s a silent, peaceful protest and it’s our right. The police should allow us to hold our protest peacefully, but they have clamped restrictions which is unfair. We will walk to the beach road, sit there silently in protest and then leave. I don't understand what's wrong in allowing us to do so. We will not create any problems. The police should allow us,” said Andhra Youth representative J. Satish.
He added they are getting overwhelming response from students and whoever they met in the last two days to make them take part in the meeting. It is also learnt that some students from neighbouring towns are expected to reach Vizag.
Meanwhile, TD MLAs from the district, Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar, Vangalapudi Anita, Panchakarla Ramesh Babu and Palla Srinivas Rao have criticised the silent protest planned on RK Beach on Thursday before the CII Partnership Summit that will begin on Friday. They asked students to stay away from it as that can dent the image of Vizag.
