Kochi Metro Rail Ltd eyes more revenue sources
Kochi: The Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) has initiated the process to identify additional revenue sources for water metro, too, with it planning to introduce water sports and flea markets.
“We've floated tenders for identifying and developing alternate revenue models," said sources. “Our stations will have a space of 3500 sqft to 6000 sqft. Hence leasing out space for kiosks and ATM machines on the model of the Kochi Metro is one of the plans." The metro authorities are in talks with the District Tourism Promotion Council and private players to explore the possibilities of introducing water sports such as water skiing and knee boarding.
Meanwhile, the KMRL is also planning exclusive rides for tourists once the Water Metro becomes operational. "Under the See Kochi In a Day' programme, the tourists would travel to various destinations using the Kochi1 card both in the Kochi metro and the ferries," they said.
