Kochi: Music, dance to mark Republic day
Kochi: The city will host an array of musical programmes including a live performance by the state's first 'Kids band' at Fort Kochi on Republic Day.
'Let the Music Speak' band, formed by nine students of Kakkanad-based Susvanam music academy, will perform at Vasco Da Gama Square, Fort Kochi, from 6 pm on Saturday.
The children aged between nine and 13 will render songs on various languages.
A music-dance festival will be held at Kochi Queen's Way from 6 am to 10 pm on Saturday.
“One side of the Goshree-Chatyath road will be closed for traffic to hold the event," said S. Vijayakumar, DTPC secretary. "Besides music and dance programmes, visitors can try hand at cycling, skating, fishing and many other activities throughout the day."
The DTPC along with the excise department will hold 'dance against drugs' event on Republic Day when students from 15 colleges will stage various cultural programmes aimed at creating awareness against drug abuse. The programme will be held at DH Ground, Ernakulam, from 6 pm onwards on January 26.
Another dance-music programme Mile Sur Mera Tumara will be held at Durbar hall on Saturday evening. The entry for the music-dance programme will be free.
