Bengaluru: Double BMTC buses, half fares
Bengaluru: With just days left for the state budget, members of the Citizens for Bengaluru (CfB) hope that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will consider their plea for #BusBhagyaBeku. They want the number of BMTC buses doubled and fares halved. They held their first public campaign on Saturday.
“BMTC buses are the lifeline of the city. We want double the number of buses and half of the existing fares. We want the government to make sufficient allocation to the BMTC," said Mr Sujith Deshpande, a CfB member. CfB has started the campaign with Bus Prayaneekara Vedike.
50 volunteers assembled at the Jayanagar TTMC, spoke to commuters and distributed pamphlets to create awareness. They boarded a bus to Majestic and educated the commuters, and continued the campaign at the Kempegowda Bus Station.
“We spoke to garment workers, vegetable vendors and sex workers who earn Rs 5,000-6,000 per month. How can they afford a pass that costs Rs 1,000-2,000 per month? We want buses to be affordable for the urban poor," said CfB volunteers.
