Businessman ends life under usury pressure in Salem
SALEM: A textile showroom owner at Omalur near Salem committed suicide by hanging from a tree after posting his suicide attempt picture on social network Facebook. The businessman, C Murugan, hailing from Yenathi near Semmandampatti ran a textile showroom at the Omalur bus stand. He incurred a huge loss in business and borrowed several lakh of rupees from various financiers.
On Saturday, he went to Venkattaramanan temple pond in the Karivalli area. He prepared to hang himself from in a tree and took a bizarre selfie with himself in a hanging posture. He posted it on his Facebook page and declared his intent to commit suicide. Soon, he followed it up with the fatal act.
On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body. Police found a suicide note in his shirt pocket, saying he had borrowed several lakh rupees to develop his business which was running at a loss. Murugan alleged that financiers had threatened him, even after he had paid interest. He said that he had decided to commit suicide after some financiers took away jewels and clothes from his showroom. Police are investigating.
