Peethambaran denies killings before judge

The police had claimed earlier that he had committed the twin murders under the influence of ganja.

Kozhikode: Kasargod CPM leader Peethambaran has rejected the police claim that he had killed the two Youth Congress workers, Sharath and Kripesh, at Periya on February 17.

Peethambaran, first accused in the case, told the Hosdurg first class magistrate court on Monday that he was forced into making the admission following police torture. The police had claimed earlier that he had committed the twin murders under the influence of ganja.

The court remanded him and second accused Saji George in judicial custody for 14 days. The others arrested are K.M. Suresh, K. Anil Kumar, M. Ashwin, Sreerag and G. Sreejan. Peethambaran had reportedly told the police at Bekal station that he had not committed the crime. He said he just went along with others to attack the two workers and that they did not plan to kill
them. It was the others who changed the plan and killed the youngsters, he said.

Peethambaran was arrested on February 19 by the investigation team. He was ousted from the CPM though he had said that the party had no role in the crime. Peethambaran’s family had said that he had no habit of smoking or drinking and that he could not have committed the crime under the influence of Ganja.
