Hyderabad: A city-based woman working as vice-president of a private banking company complained to Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar that she was ill-treated by an IPS officer working as a deputy commissioner of police, and made to wait on the road for hours.
The incident occurred during the traffic jam caused by the protest organised by the Communist Party of India at Begumpet on Tuesday morning. The complainant, Ms Shyamala Kumari Ghantasala, 41, vice-president of Yes Bank at the Begumpet branch located opposite the US Consulate. In the complaint lodged with Mr Anjani Kumar over e-mail, Ms Ghantasala said that due to the CPI protest at Begumpet, the police were checking the people entering the street.
Despite showing her identification cards to the policemen, North Zone DCP Kalmeshwar Shinganevar made her and her colleague to deboard their car and wait for a woman police officer to arrive and check the vehicle, she claimed.
Ms Ghantasala alleged that for almost two-and-a-half hours, she and her colleague were made to wait on the road. “The DCP did not talk to us and let us go and the woman arrived late. Despite pleading that we were running late, the DCP refused (to let her go), Ms Ghantasala alleged and asked if it could be called friendly policing.
The police commissioner said, “On receiving an e-mail, I personally spoke to Shyamala Kumari G., V-P of Yes Bank. She narrated the incident and I have assured her that I will personally get it enquired into and also see that such inconvenience is not caused to a lady. She also agreed to visit my office.”
