BBMP budget: No clarity on where the revenue will come from
The cash-strapped BBMP lacks the efficiency and the revenue to deliver on the projects promised in the budget. Only 55 to 60 per cent of the budget may be realised consequently.
Overall, it seems to be a copy paste of the state budget with no clarity on where all the revenue will come from to execute the budgetary promises. However, the earmarking of Rs 7 crore to engage marshals to specifically monitor and control littering is welcome, and the setting up of decentralised compost centres in parks and others places at the ward level is a good move.
But with residents of HSR Layout up in arms against the Karnataka Compost Development Corporation (KCDC) we need to wait and see how the civic body will persuade them to allow upgrading of compositing units in their backyard.
The BBMP’s proposal to replace five lakh street lights with LED lights is a good initiative from the energy efficiency point of view.
While Rs 100 crore has been reserved for the construction of individual houses for scheduled castes and tribes, there should have been a larger affordable scheme for them.
