Veterans prefer sons to daughters as political heir apparent in Madhya Pradesh
Bhopal: Old war horses in Madhya Pradesh politics seem to prefer their sons to daughters as inheritors of their political legacy. Many veterans in MP politics have chosen to keep their daughters away from politics and encouraged their sons to step into their shoes.
Interestingly, some of them have admitted in pubic that their daughters are more deserving than their sons to inherit their political legacy. Former chief minister and Congress’ candidate for Bhopal Lok Sabha constituency Digvijay Singh has initiated his only son Jaivardhan Singh into politics and chose to keep his three daughters, who are married in royal families, away from politics.
The two-time MLA Jaivardhan is currently a cabinet minister in the Kamal Nath government. Mr Singh has often said his daughters are more deserving and responsible than his son to inherit his political legacy.
Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar who is contesting from Morena LS seat as a BJP candidate in the forthcoming polls in MP has encouraged his son Devendra to enter politics and perhaps preferred his daughter Nivedita to stay away from politics.
While Devendra is a leader of BJP’s youth wing in MP, Nivedita is doing her LLM now.
Former MP Anup Mishra, kin of former prime minister later Atal Behari Vajapyee has also decided to initiate his son Ashwin into politics instead of his daughter Asmita.
AICC general secretary Jyotiraditya Scindia’s son Maharyaman was seen accompanying his father and mother in political functions of late. Mr Scindia’s daughter Annaya has been sent abroad to pursue her higher studies.
Former state BJP president Nand Kumar Chouhan who is contesting from Khandwa LS seat also did not encourage his two daughters, who are married now, to join politics.
Instead, he has allowed his son Harsa to join BJP.
Former Union minister and BJP’s nominee for Mandla Fagan Singh Kulaste has also kept his three daughters away from politics and allowed his son Bed Prakash to join BJP.
