IT officer barred from acting against US firm

Hyderabad: A two-judge bench of the Telangana High Court on Wednesday injected the income-tax officer from acting further against US-based Tbull Corporation. The bench of Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and N. Tukaramji are dealing with a petition filed by Tbull questioning a notice alleging that taxable income of the company had escaped assessment. It was contended by the petitioner that approximately ₹ 19.06 crore was invested as an isolated share capital in American Brew Crafts Private Limited. It was also contended that there was a principle place of establishment that the petitioner had in India and was sent a notice for the year 2016-17. The income tax officer has been directed to take no coercive steps. The income tax department has been directed to explain its stance by filing a counter. The matter was adjourned to July 18.

HC sets aside preventive detention

A two-judge bench of the Telangana High Court on Wednesday set aside the preventive detention of Mora Ravi. The bench allowed a habeas corpus writ petition filed by Kunja Krishna, an agriculturist and social worker from Kothagudem, who complained that the order of detention was an executive overreach. He pointed out that the detenue was detained after he had procured bail from the appropriate court. It was contended that it was after procuring bail that a detention order was passed against him. The prosecution stated that the detenue was caught red-handed with a weapon and keeping in mind his prior criminal antecedents, a detention order was passed against him. The bench set aside the detention order and directed the police to set the detenue free immediately.

Child custody case: Boy’s parents asked to settle issue amicably

A two-judge bench of the Telangana High Court on Wednesday granted time in a case pertaining to child custody. The bench of Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili and Justice Pulla Karthik heard the petition filed by Tarannum Naaz to produce her two-year-old son. It was contended that the petitioner and the father are Indian citizens, who got married in Auckland and had a child in the United States. In November 2022, the father in the guise of a visit had brought the child to India. The bench extended time to the warring spouses to enable them to come to an amicable solution and spend time with the child. The matter was adjourned to June.

Bail denied to banker accused of embezzlement

Justice C. Sumalatha of the Telangana High Court denied anticipatory bail in a case pertaining to misappropriation of funds. The judge heard the petition filed by Marripelli Ranjith Kumar, a resident of Mahabubabad district. It was contended that the petitioner is arrayed accused in a complaint of Inthezargunj police station in Warangal, where it was alleged that the petitioner, who was working as counsellor for home loan department in State Bank of India, had misappropriated funds of 38 home loans accounts and made unauthorised transactions to the approximate tune of ₹ four crore. The prosecution stated that the alleged crime is grave in nature. The judge concluded by denying bail.

Priest accused of sexual abuse denied bail

Justice C. Sumalatha of the Telangana High Court denied bail in a case pertaining to outraging the modesty of a woman. The judge heard the petition filed by Velpuri Ramu, a priest residing in Kukatpally. It was contended that the petitioner had misled the complainant, who under the guise of providing a spiritual remedy, invited her to his home and made her consume milk. Later, she found herself naked and was forced to have intercourse with him. The prosecution stated that the petitioner had taken advantage of her loneliness and had also demanded ₹ two lakh threatening to release pictures in social media. The judge concluded by denying bail.
