TS in touch with Centre to rescue Telangana people stranded in Sudan

Hyderabad: The state government is coordinating with the Union ministry of external affairs in 'Operation Kaveri' to rescue people from Telangana stranded in Sudan. The state government has opened a control room in Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi, said Telangana resident commissioner in New Delhi Gaurav Uppal on Wednesday, addding the state government will receive Sudan returnees and all arrangements have been made to shift them to their native places in Telangana.

However, he said, there is no clarity so far on how many people from Telangana were stranded in Sudan. "We received information that INS Sumedha reached Jeddah port with the first batch of 278 stranded Indians from strife-torn Sudan. The second batch of 121 stranded Indians has also left Port Sudan for Jeddah.

There is no clarity on how many people could be from Telangana although we have reports that there could be four persons. We are coordinating with the union ministry of external affairs," Gaurav said. He urged all those affected from Telangana to furnish their details to officials.

The state government has decided to bear the transportation costs of all migrants from the state after they land in New Delhi as well as arrange for boarding and lodging for the returnees.
