Consider women for welfare officers' posts, HC to SCCL

Hyderabad: Justice K. Lakshman of the Telangana High Court directed Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) to consider women candidates for the posts of welfare officers. The direction came in the light of the stance of SCCL that women were deemed disqualified for the posts as it would require working underground. The judge admitted a writ petition filed by M. Sunita and three others questioning the ban. It contended that given the provisions for horizontal reservations, all four candidates would, on merit, be eligible for the 11 posts for which selection was underway. Counsel for the petitioner pointed out that the Union government had amended the earlier ban on recruitment of underground workers. She contended that any such disqualification would be discriminatory and unconstitutional. The judge directed the respondent to consider the petitioner for selection as welfare officer (trainee) E1 grade. The petitioner has cleared the written examination.

Don’t stall Himayatnagar village to Moinabad mandal road, civic body told

Justice Pulla Karthik of the Telangana High Court directed the civic authorities of Moinabad mandal not to stall the use of a 30-feet road in Himayatnagar village. The judge sitting in vacation court made the interim order in a writ petition filed by K. Atmavadan Reddy and K. Sanjay Reddy who questioned the action of revenue and other authorities in the demolition, obstruction, and excavation of an existing 30 ft passage from the Moinabad-Hyderabad main road leading to the land of the petitioner in the village. According to the petitioners, the sarpanch, members of the panchayat and civic authorities were interfering with the use of the road. It was also contended that petitioners would be willing to pay for the road’s construction but they cannot be denied access to it.
