Maharaja's College goes the online way

This is an attempt by the autonomous college to move to the big league of colleges in the country.

KOCHI: The Maharaja’s College here has tied up with the central government-owned National Informatics Centre (NIC) to move to the online platform for all its operations. This is an attempt by the autonomous college to move to the big league of colleges in the country. This year, the NIC is preparing the rank list for the UG and PG admission and next year onwards it will conduct the online allotment process also. In another major initiative, the NIC will prepare a ‘campus suite’ for the college soon so that all the information of the college, including that of students, is available at a mouse click.

The NIC is already managing several big tasks, including those given by CBSE and the allotment of Kerala entrance (KEAM), NITs, Cusat and Kerala Agricultural University. It had also developed the Kerala government salary software, Spark.
A senior NIC official said that the UG rank list preparation at Maharaja’s is complex since a lot of permutations and combinations have to be worked out for selection whereas in the case of entrances, there is a solid entrance score to prepare the rank list based on which allotment is done.

“We are also given the task of preparing the ‘campus suite’ which will enable teachers and parents access to all information about students and also other details. Students can also identify details, including their attendance which will enable them to make suitable moves if there is deficiency. Online payment of fees will also come in place,” the official said.

According to Dr K.S. Sunish, a governing council member of the college, the office of the controller of examinations will be fully automated. “All departments will be connected with optical fibre cables. Everything will be informed via SMS, including interview dates, exam timetable and results. We are turning absolutely student-friendly. Our UG admission fee is Rs 50 whereas that of MG University is Rs 660. A centralised allotment process is in place at the college,” said Dr Sunish
