Chennai: Transport workers get their allowances revised
Chennai: In a move to address the grievances put forth by 47 transport unions in a series of discussions that took place in Chromepet Central Workshop, transport minister M.R.Vijayabhaskar on Tuesday announced the revisal of allowances and a few other facilities.
“In all the eight transport corporations, there are vacancies. The department shall work on filling all the gaps in the coming days,” M.R.Vijayabhaskar had said.
Moreover, they are numerous conductors, drivers and technicians working on daily wage basis who get not more than Rs 300 per day. From now, any worker who finished 240 days of work will be entitled to monthly salary.
A majority of transport unions previously rued that they have to pay a huge amount of money, if they miss the ticket block. Addressing this, Vijayabhaskar said in the case of a lost ticket block, the worker concerned must only pay five per cent of the total printing charge of the ticket block.
From 1992 to 2007, anybody who worked in the state transport department for more than 10 years would get an instant increment in salary. The department would follow the same policy again from now.
Also, if the traffic checker or inspector gets promoted to the supervisor post, their 'monthly grade pay' would increase from Rs 2,400 to Rs 4,300. Similarly, Vijayabhaskar announced rise in allowances.
“Each person working for the transport department is entitled to an education advance of Rs 5,000 and marriage advance of how much ever they demand (it would be cut from their provident fund),” he said. The transport minister slashed the requests to let the state transport corporation be governed by the Centre and said it will remain a separate entity.
