Alleged voyeurism incident at Udupi paramedical college triggers controversy
Udupi: An alleged voyeurism incident in a college in Udupi has triggered a controversy on social media platforms.
It was alleged that three girls of the college placed a camera inside the washroom for filming fellow students. A girl who noted this had reported it to the institution, and the girls have been immediately suspended from the institution.
However, the incident now took a communal turn on social media discussions as the three girls are said to belong to a specific community. Rashmi Samanth, the first Indian woman to be elected as the president of Oxford Students Union, who hails from Udupi tweeted stating that nobody was talking about the three girls "who placed cameras in female toilets of their college to record hundreds of unsuspecting Hindu girls. Videos and photos that were then circulated in community WhatsApp groups by the perpetrators.”
I'm from Udupi and nobody is talking about Alimatul Shaifa, Shabanaz and Aliya who placed cameras in female toilets of their college to record hundreds of unsuspecting Hindu girls. Videos and phots that were then circulated in community WhatsApp groups by the perpetrators.

Responding to these comments, several BJP leaders have voiced their support for Rashmi Samanth and Shefali Vaidya.
The anti-Hindu @INCKarnataka govt is now normalising intimidation and harassment against Hindus for standing against institutional persecution.

On the instruction of Jihadi elements, the Siddaramaiah govt has unleashed its police force to target an Indian citizen for tweeting…
"Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna visited and met Rashmi's family, assuring them of their commitment to safeguarding Hindu daughters," BJP state chief Nalin Kumar Kateel tweeted and added that no threats or intimidation could deter them from their responsibility.
Meanwhile, Udupi SP Akshay M Hakay made it clear that the incident has been addressed at the college level refuting the claims that the videos were circulated as alleged by some parties.
The girls had admitted to their actions, claiming it was done for 'fun'. The institution initiated disciplinary proceedings and placed the girls under suspension. No formal police complaint has been lodged regarding this incident.
