Voyeurism Allegations Rock Udupi College, Case Against 3 Female Students
Udupi: In response to the alleged incident of voyeurism at an educational institution in Udupi, the police officials have suo-motu registered a case against three female students. The accused students, along with the college management, have been named in the FIR lodged based on the complaint by the Sub Inspector of Malpe Police Station.
The FIR states that after a protest staged by students at the college on July 20, police officials, led by the sub inspector, visited the college. During her visit, the sub-inspector got to know that three female students from the college had allegedly captured a video of another girl in the washroom on July 18. While the three girls intended to record their friend, they captured footage of another female student. The victim confronted the girls and immediately had the video clip deleted. Following this, on the next day, the college management seized the mobile phones of the three students. However, no complaint had been filed with the police.
Meanwhile, the college management held a press conference on July 25 revealing that the girls admitted to their actions, expressed regret, and were suspended from the college.
In light of this development, the sub inspector filed an FIR against the three students as well as the college management. They have been booked under IPC Section 509, 204, 175 read with 34, and section 66 (E) of the IT Act.
Meanwhile, Udupi District BJP president Kuyilady Suresh Nayak has called for an investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the incident. "We suspect an international conspiracy behind this incident. It should be thoroughly investigated by an SIT. We will stage a protest on Friday to address this matter," he declared.
Meanwhile, the National Commission of Women (NCW) member Khushbu Sundar is scheduled to visit the college tomorrow to assess the situation.
However, the Congress has accused the BJP of politicizing the issue and challenged them to present the alleged video evidence.
"BJP claims of secret cameras and hundreds of videos being shared on WhatsApp groups and social media. If true, they should submit the evidence to the Investigating Officer. Why is the BJP unable to produce the video?" the Congress tweeted. The Congress further challenged the BJP to address the matter of an ABVP leader who recorded a similar video in Shivamogga.
