Karnataka: BAC's no session Monday' riles BJP
Belagavi: The Opposition BJP has opposed the decision of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the state legislature not to hold the Legislative Session on Monday due to the Bharat Bandh, called to oppose the Centre’s demonetization of high value currency notes.
The BAC decided to compensate for the day's loss by extending the session by a day from December 2 to 3. After attending the BAC meeting, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T.B. Jayachandra said the BAC has resolved not to hold the session on Monday, as the government has to deploy 3,000 police personal for security duty. Police personnel deputed to Belagavi from various other districts, have to be re-deployed to the districts for security measures, he said. Opposing the decision of the BAC, BJP members walked out of the meeting.
By not holding the session on Monday, the state government has proved that it is supporting the bandh against demonetisation, said opposition leader in the Assembly Jagadish Shettar.
In the Legislative Council, opposition leader K.S.Eshwarappa said that since the session was called to discuss burning issues pertaining to North Karnataka, the holiday for a day will send a wrong message to the public. This is nothing but betrayal of people of North Karnataka, he alleged.
