GHMC committee to probe biodiversity flyover mishap

Panel to study geometrical design, alignment and safety parametres.

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Monday constituted an independent four-member committee to give a report on accidents on Biodiversity flyover. The panel comprises Prof. S. Nagabhushan (adviser road safety for World Bank project), Mr T.S. Reddy, (traffic engineer and road safety specialist), Prof. Srinivasa Kumar (Associate professor-traffic and transportation, OU) and Mr Pradeep Reddy (road safety audit expert).

The committee will check the geometrical design, alignment, and safety parameters adopted on Biodiversity level II flyover.

A senior GHMC official said that the team of experts inspected the spot on Monday and collected designs and drawings of the project. He said that the expert committee will inspect the flyover to check the execution of drawings and other parameters prior to submission of the report. On Saturday, a speeding car travelling on the newly-opened flyover lost control and fell off the bridge, damaging two cars underneath the flyover. A woman was killed, while six others were injured in the incident.

Though civic authorities claimed that the flyover design was as per norms, road transport experts said that there were various faults in the designs. On November 10, a software employee, who was in an inebriated condition, killed two people and injured four persons after he rammed his car into two vehicles before knocking down two persons who were taking selfies after stopping their bike on the flyover. Subsequently, the civic body put a selfie ban.
