Bengaluru: Free solar power to residents
Bengaluru: For Malleswaram residents this candidate is offering free power by installing solar panels, while solving long standing civic woes such as removal of encroachment on footpaths, improving the standards of government hospitals, schools and parks are his other priorities.
Meet Subramanyam Sharma, the candidate of All India Mahila Empowerment Party (MEP), who is also related to former Indian presidents Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and V.V. Giri. Subramanyam is a social activist, filmmaker and serial entrepreneur. He told Deccan Chronicle that he changed his mind from contesting as an independent, after he got ticket from MEP. "Vision of MEP was the same as mine. MEP head Ms Nowhera Shaik and myself wanted to give a result oriented governance and not just promises and wanted to differ from conventional political parties. So I chose to contest from MEP" Subramanyam said.
When queried whether his relationship with former presidents will help him get political mileage, he said, "It doesn't matter much as according to me people have stopped voting for a leader or a political party. They vote for the individual and his vision. Only these will help win elections."
He also said that in this assembly elections and upcoming 2019 general elections it will be independents and political parties which impress the voters will score big. Sharing his vision for Malleswaram, he said "People have elected Ashwath Narayan twice and for the past 10 years, but he has not done anything significant for them. Sewage overflows, parks are not maintained (expect for Sankey Tank), government hospitals, playgrounds and schools are crying for attention."
He went on to add that the without any monitoring mechanism, residential areas have been commercialised leading to footpath encroachment, random parking etc.
I already have an experience of working for people indirectly. If elected I shall work directly for them, he claimed.
Do you believe areas like Malleswaram have power cuts? It is just for outsiders that the area is fine. But you have to stay in the area to know the real issues, he said, and added that he shall rope in private companies under CSR initiatives and set up solar panels in the constituency to supply free power to people.I have already held meeting with leaders of different communities and trade bodies. Soon I shall commence with the door-to-door campaign, Subramanyam said.
