Rains may bring relief, but temperature to rise
Chennai: Chennaiites suffering the brutal May weather may find some respite as weathermen have forecast the possibility of convectional rains on Friday. But this phenomenon may not result in a decline in temperature. On the contrary, a surge in temperature is expected even after the end of Agni Nakshataram on Saturday.
Weather blogger Pradeep John did not rule out chances of rain in some parts of the city. “Northern districts of Tamil Nadu along with Chennai will have convective rains from tommorow,” he said. Echoing the same, director of regional meteorological department, S. Balachandran said, “Chances of rains are more. However, uncertainty over sea breeze onset makes it difficult to predict the exact rainfall activity,” he said.
With the temperature scaling up to 39.6 degree Celsius in Nungambakkam and 40.6degree Celsius in Meenambakkam on Thursday, residents expected some relief at the end of Agni Nakshataram. But calculation of city temperature readings available at India meteorological department shows that the May month’s average lies at 37.1degreeC whereas June’s average stays at 37degreeC and thus crashing the hopes about temperature decrease in the next one month. Delayed onset of sea breeze is another reason for sultry city temperature for the month of June.
