Qamar Islam's U-turn, praises Mallikarjun Kharge
Kalaburagi: Kalaburagi North MLA and former minister Qamarul Islam, who had attacked Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge blaming him for his removal from the state cabinet a few months ago, on Wednesday made a U turn soon after his appointment as the All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary in charge of Kerala.
Profusely praising Kharge, Islam went to the extent of saying that he and the Congress high command had restored his honour by giving him the post. “It was Mr Kharge who spoke to Mrs Sonia Gandhi and Mr Rahul Gandhi and impressed upon them the need to appoint me to the post of AICC Secretary. I’m taking a delegation to Delhi to express my gratitude to Khargeji”.
When Islam’s attention was drawn to the harsh words he had used against Kharge earlier, he retorted,
“Tell me what I had said against him. You know the kind of person I am. From the beginning I’m always with the people and when they were angry (after my removal from the Cabinet) I also became angry. Even Malikayya Guttedar and Baburao Chinchansur(Congress MLAs) had targeted Mr Kharge. Now I have no such grouse against anybody because the party has given me a very big responsibility”.
