Hyderabad police auction 10,480 vehicles

4,000 to 5,000 men attend, 379 vehicles sold'.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad city police conducted a public auction of abandoned and unidentified vehicles at Goshamahal stadium on Wednesday Speaking to this newspaper, the Additional DCP of CAR (City Armed Reserve) department, B.S.P. Ravi Kumar said that about 4,000 to 5,000 men attended the event and 379 vehicles were auctioned off, including 243 serviceable vehicles and 136 scrap ones.

The advertisements for the auctioning event were published in all leading newspapers and was also put up on our website, he said. “It was a two day event conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday at Goshamahal stadium where we auctioned off the lot. A total of 136 vehicles were sold to scrap dealers and Rs 28,18,300 was received during the auction,” said the additional DCP, adding that about Rs 1 lakh more is yet to be realised as some amounts are due.

The additional DCP further said that the city police had given out the notification arouned six months ahead of the public auction so that if anyone with an objection or the owners may file an application to the commissioner of police to claim the vehicle within a period of six months from the date of notification, failing which the vehicles will be auctioned.

The condition of most of the unclaimed vehicles has deteriorated to such an extent that they can only be sold to scrap dealers. Around 10,480 abandoned and unclaimed vehicles were auctioned in the last three years, among which 9,473 were sold to scrap dealers, leaving 1,007 serviceable vehicles that were sold off in the auction.
