Heavy Rainfall Alert Across Karnataka

Mangaluru: Rain-related incidents have caused a casualty in Belagavi district and left a girl injured in Bagalkot district, as heavy rains continue to lash various parts of Karnataka.

Following heavy downpour warnings, several district administrations have taken precautionary measures and declared a holiday for schools and colleges today.
Kashinath Appasab Suthar (23) from Athani of Belagavi district lost his life when the house wall collapsed on him during the early hours of Thursday. The police have visited the incident site.

In another incident, a girl named Ashwini from Terdal in Bagalkot district was injured when the house wall collapsed. She is currently receiving treatment at the Taluk Hospital.

Anticipating heavy rainfall, the district administrations of Dharwad, Vijayapura, Raichur, Vijayanagara, Ballari, and Udupi have declared a holiday for schools and colleges. Belagavi and Dakshina Kannada district administrations have announced a holiday for primary and high schools.

The Tungabhadra Dam's inflow has significantly increased due to heavy rainfall.

In light of this, the Housing, Minorities Welfare, and in-charge minister of Vijayanagara has instructed the deputy commissioner to take necessary precautions to ensure safety.

In light of the predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Kalaburagi district and Maharashtra state, Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner, Fouzia Taranum, announced that officials from various departments have been appointed as nodal officers for villages in different taluks. These officers will play a crucial role in coordinating rescue and relief efforts in the event of potential flooding of the Bhima and Kagina rivers.
