NCW Begins Inquiry into Udupi Educational Institution s Voyeurism Allegations
Udupi: In response to allegations of voyeurism at an educational institution in Udupi, National Commission for Women (NCW) Khushbu Sundar started an inquiry on Thursday.
On her arrival on Wednesday evening, she gathered information from top district administration officials, including the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police.
During her visit to the educational institution on Thursday morning, Khushbu Sundar met the students and the staff to get a comprehensive understanding of the incident.
The Malpe Police have already filed a First Information Report (FIR) against three girls from the college in connection with the incident and have sent the mobile phones of the girls to the FSL.
Speaking to media persons, Khushbu said that her visit was prompted by a complaint received by the NCW.
“As responsible citizens, I request people not to believe rumors and false videos doing rounds. Please wait for the information from us or the police,” Khushbu said.
“The investigation has just begun and we will have to wait for the FSL report. Nothing can be revealed now. This issue is about students, women and we have to wait,” she added.
Earlier in the day she said that her visit was to facilitate a fair and impartial police investigation and not to paint a communal color.
In response to the incident, a massive protest was staged at Ajjarkad in Udupi by members of ABVP. They alleged that the Malpe station Inspector had misguided the college administration when they had approached the police, and therefore demanded the suspension of the officer.
Since he is also the Investigating Officer (IO) of the case, the ABVP members called for the department to replace him.
