Hyderabad: Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar of the Telangana High Court on Wednesday adjourned to August 1 a writ petition that could decide the fate of 271 local income group persons residing at Vivekananda Nagar of Hyderabad.
Earlier, C. Navanita and 270 others had moved the High Court complaining that civic authorities were threatening to dispossess them under the guise of the construction of new 2BHK houses.
The government informed the court that they were given temporary alternative accommodation to enable the government to construct 2BHK houses and subsequently, allot them to displaced petitioners.
Senior counsel L. Ravichander pointed out to the court that the claim of the government that the temporary housing facility is better than the ones in occupation of the petitioners was far from true. He said it was pathetic that such temporary structures are even offered for dwelling by a modern government to sort out the impasse as to whether the houses now offered by the government are fit for the petitioners.
Ravichander offered to personally visit the site and submit his opinion. While it is the case of the petitioner that they are being displaced contrary to an undertaking given earlier in 2018 by the government, the government contended that the delay was self-inflicted.
“Even now, the government is fighting shy to cap the date when the construction of its intended 2BHK houses will be completed,” senior counsel said, specifically alleging that in the nearby vicinity, the 2BHK construction was half done.
“Without completing the same, the government wants to evict the petitioners,” the petitioner contended.
