Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police warned people who collect chanda (donations) forcefully during Ganesh Chathurthi of tough action. Police commissioner M. Mahender Reddy in an official release said a section of the public and anti-social elements were likely to indulge in forcible collection of funds in the name of religion and religious functions. This could create animosity and hatred among communities. The commissioner also prohibited bursting or throwing of firecrackers on public roads and at public places from September 5 to September 16.
