Nanjangud policeman is third Mysuru cop to die of COVID-19

So far, over 406 police personnel of Mysuru district, including 290 from Mysuru city and 116 from Mysuru rural have tested positive

Mysuru: Less than a week after a 36-year-old cop of Hunsur town police station died of COVID-19, a 35-year-old police personnel of Nanjangud rural police station fell to coronavirus on Wednesday night. He is the third cop to die due to the deadly virus.

So far, over 406 police personnel of Mysuru district, including 290 from Mysuru city and 116 from Mysuru rural have tested positive for COVID-19. At least 142 of the cases are active.

According to police department sources, the Nanjangud cop had tested positive for COVID-19 in rapid antigen testing 10 days back and was treated at home. However, he suffered breathlessness on Wednesday and was rushed to Nanjangud government hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival. He is survived by his wife and a three-year-old daughter.

On Tuesday, Commissioner of police, Dr Chandraguptha himself tested positive for COVID-19 and he is being treated at home. Recently, Mysuru district SP CB Rishyanth had aslo tested positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, after a 36-year-old cop in Hunsur taluk of Mysuru district died last Saturday, his primary contacts, 13 cops, -- all from same station -- also tested positive on Monday.

In Mysuru district, 14880 people have tested positive and 381 people have died so far. At least, 3,843 cases are active. Mysuru has the third highest number of cases and the second highest number of deaths in the state.
