Mysuru: Vintage beauties all set for heritage drive

On Sunday evening, the vintage beauties will drive past the historic heritage structures of Mysuru and park before the Mysuru Palace.

Mysuru: Mysureans will soon get to see a 1937 model Sunbeam Talbot, the car that was once owned by Lord Mountbatten, the last viceroy of India, drive down its streets as the city gets ready to host the second edition of the “Royal Classic Dasara Drive” organised by the Federation of Historic Vehicles of India (FHVI) from September 29 to October 2 .

Other cars that will roll out on Mysuru’s streets include the Mercedes, Alfa Romeo, a Buick, a Cadillac, Chevrolet’s Morris’s, and Austin’s.

While the Sunbeam Talbot is owned by Sabena Prakash, the other cars belong to members of royal families and well-known business houses and prominent industrialists from within the country and Sri Lanka.

As many as 125 of these classic car and bike enthusiasts from the neighbouring country and Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Goa, Mysuru, Ooty, Nagpur, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Kolkata will bring 50 vintage and classic cars and motorcycles from the 1920s to the 1980s to the event, according to Dr Ravi Prakash, president, FHVI.

The Royal Classic Dasara Drive will be flagged off from the Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru by Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala at 9am on September 29.

The cars will enter the grounds of the Vidhana Soudha through the Kengal Hanumanthaiah gate and exit through the High Court gate before heading for Mysuru. On Sunday evening, the vintage beauties will drive past the historic heritage structures of Mysuru and park before the Mysuru Palace.

The next morning they will head to the Chamundi Hills and then to the Bandipur wildlife sanctuary.

Tuesday will see them drive to the Krishna Raja Sagar dam before departing for Bengaluru on the return journey.
