20,000 students to join AP Red Cross Society
Vijayawada: The AP branch of Indian Red Cross Society has signed an agreement with Koneru Lakshmaiah University to enlist KLU’s 20,000 students in Youth Red Cross activities. The agreement was signed by KLU registrar Subba Rao and general secretary A.K. Parida on Thursday.
The registrar said, “We feel honoured to be a part of the Red Cross Society. We shall complete the enrollment of our 20,000 students into the Youth Red Cross in a month’s time. They would support the Climate Action Initiative of the RCS to mitigate the problem of single-use plastic. They would encourage the residents in their neighbouring villages to, instead, use cloth bags.”
Sridhar Reddy, chairman of AP Red Cross, stressed the need to involve students in community services and make them responsible citizens. He promised all help and support for the programmes of the Youth Red Cross units of KLU.
The AP Red Cross Society will train the students in First Aid and disaster relief operations.
AK Parida explained in detail the One Million Volunteers programme and about the AP Red Cross App being introduced on the advice of Governor S Abdul Nazeer who is also the president of the IRCS AP chapter. “We shall give recognition to the best Youth Red Cross units with special awards during the annual general body meeting of the AP Red Cross,” he said.
BVS Kumar, state coordinator for blood banks and projects of AP Red Cross, has explained to the students the need for their participation in community services and how their services will be rewarded by way of helping them get admissions in good universities abroad and in matters of placement.
Guntur district RCS president P. Ramachandra Raju, dean of KLU student affairs Hanumantha Rao, dean Sai Vijay, Professor in charge of student activities at KLU, Sukeerthi, attended the programme.
