Focus on Road Works in Cities and Towns: CM Jagan Tells Officials

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy reviewed the development programmes and projects of various city corporations including Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Kakinada, Rajamahendravaram, Kurnool, Kadapa, Tirupati and Guntur on Friday.

He directed the officials to focus on proper maintenance of roads in urban areas, as also the expansion and traffic management in Visakhapatnam, under a special drive. Expedite the ongoing works in all major cities during the post-rainy season, he said.

The CM asked officials to conserve water and ensure that industries coming up on the seacoast use sea water after its desalination.

Officials told him that works related to roads and buildings, drains, water supply, parks, street lights, sewage treatment, civic services and beautification have been taken up with a fund outlay of Rs 3,592 crore in Visakhapatnam alone in the last four years.

The officials explained the details of the new GVMC complex construction at a cost of Rs 100 crore in four acres in Mudasarlova. Works would begin soon to develop the basic infrastructure. Steps would also be taken to develop a modern park, a commercial complex at the RTC bus stand, a multi-level car parking facility and sports complexes at Bheemili, Gajuwaka and Anakapalli at a cost of Rs 300 crore.

As for Vijayawada, the Chief Minister told them to ensure that all canals and their surroundings in the city are tidy. “Use modern equipment for this.” Also, expedite the works of the BR Ambedkar Smrutivanam and beautification of the airport road and along the flood-protection wall at Krishna Lanka, he asked the officials.

On Rajamahendravaram, the officials said the beautification drive at Kambala Cheruvu and its surroundings in Rajamahendravaram was completed and other works were in progress.

The Chief Minister suggested that officials should concentrate on the beautification of the Havelock Bridge and fast-forward the construction of the flood protection wall in Nellore. He told the officials to form resident welfare associations to run the Tidco houses and focus on water conservation in the Jagananna colonies.

“Concentrate on the proper running of floating solar panels, sanitation machines and STPs and train the staff to properly use these. Students of Polytechnics and ITIs should be trained in use of technology in the running of various urban projects,” he said.

Urban affairs minister A. Suresh, Chief Secretary K.S. Jawahar Reddy, Special CS Y. Srilakshmi, finance secretary Guljar, municipal administration commissioner Koteswara Rao, Swachha Andhra corporation MD Chandrudu, VMC commissioner Swapnil Pundkar, urban resurvey project special officer Subba Rao, town planning director Vidyullata, APGBCL MD Rajasekhara Reddy, MEPMA MD Vijayalakshmi and others were present.
