Shah hints at new criminal laws
Hyderabad: Around the time the Parliamentary standing committee was to discuss adoption of new laws in Delhi, Union home minister Amit Shah on Friday stressed the need to implement new laws like Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023 and the Bharatiya Sakshya Bill 2023 to effectively replace the existing Indian Penal Code (IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and the Indian Evidence Act.
He was speaking after reviewing the passing out parade of the 75th regular recruit (RR) batch of IPS probationers at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVP NPA) here.
Shah said that the 175 IPS probationers, who have completed their training, will have to implement the new laws that are being implemented. He said that governments will be introducing new technologies into the regular policing system in order to combat cyber offences and criminals more effectively.
Police will face bigger challenges while handling cybercrimes and terrorism. The government will not tolerate terrorism of any kind, he said.
"The government is keen to introduce Acts like Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023. The IPS probationers must implement such Laws in order to achieve better policing in the country," Shah said.
He pointed out that organized crimes, crypto currency, fake currency, hawala transactions, inter-state offences and peddling of narcotic substances are posing a major challenge, which could be combated and contained by a technology-driven policing system. "The ensuing 25 years (Amrit Kaal) will see the country emerge as a global superpower in terms of developments. India will stand atop. The police system will get more changes and new Acts, technology and regular policing to serve the people better," he said.
Stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi gives top priority to women empowerment, the minister praised Anushtha Kalia of Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and UT cadre, who topped the training session for which she received the coveted ‘Sword of Honour’.
The probationers included 34 women, 155 men and 20 foreigners, including five each from Nepal and Maldives, six from Royal Bhutan and four from Mauritius.
Later, Amit Shah inaugurated FitRise 75 at the academy’s stadium. Incidentally, around four lakh people, including staff of NPA, registered themselves in the programme, which saw the participation of the 74th batch probationers.
