Chain snatching in buses rises in Vadakara

On Sunday, a homemaker lost a 3.5-sovereign gold chain in a bus plying between Nadapuram and Vilangad.

Kozhikode: Increasing incidents of gold snatching on buses are happening in Vadakara area. Thousands of rupees and more than 20 sovereigns of gold were snatched on the Vadakara-Kuttiady bus route within a short span of time.

On Sunday, a homemaker lost a 3.5-sovereign gold chain in a bus plying between Nadapuram and Vilangad.

The 55-year old woman came to know of the incident only when she disembarked at Vanimel. On Thursday, the gold bracelet of a woman was snatched in the bus plying between Vadakara and Kuttiady. Such events occur when there is a heavy rush on board.

"We cannot rule out any gold snatching gang operating in such buses. But we have got no evidence so far. There were past incidents of a notorious gang operating using women," said a police officer at Vadakara.
