Kozhikode: Violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations in our world today.
This thought led to the idea of creating a sculpture from old newspapers to raise voice against the injustice towards women by the students and teachers of Image Creative Education, Calicut.
The sculpture was exhibited in Mananchira square on Sunday as part of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
It took two whole weeks for 12 students to complete the paper sculpture. "Newspapers are the cheapest and easily available medium. Also, it is an untouched medium. So we thought of implementing our idea on newspapers," said Amal Kumar, a student of Image and one of the sculptors.
The basic idea and design were of Biju and Levin, both teachers at Image.The sculpture is now shifted to Sky Tower, Bank Road-Mavoor Road Junction, opposite Kurishupally. It will be open for public on Tuesday also.
