Puducherry: The year 2017 in Puducherry for Raj Nivas was one of trials and tribulations said Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi.
In a note headed ‘A Look Back’ Ms Bedi said that the Lt Governor’s office stood firm in ensuring people are served and went on perseveringly to address people’s needs last year.
“It did not weaken in its resolve, but instead strengthened its determination to connect with common people”, she said. Citing the example of irregularities in medical college admission exposed following the intervention of the Lt Governor, Ms Bedi said that corruption was the main target and any complaint with credible evidence was dealt with firmly.
The Lt Governor claimed that Raj Nivas bacame ‘People Nivas with various measures adopted such as open house for addressing people’s grievances, field visits and morning weekend rounds.
All complaints received through email, WhatsApp or control rooms were addressed. Ms Bedi pointed out that Lok Adalat and female counsellor service for dealing with crimes against woman were big support in grievance readdressal.
Besides eminent visitors and speakers, common people including school and college children visited Raj Nivas on different occasions making it People’s Nivas.
Raj Nivas website started updating with details of orders passed by the Lt Governor to empower people and prevent the spreading of misinformation .
Expressing hope that the year 2018 would be harmonious and more credible work would take place due to change in bureaucratic leadership at the top,the Lt Governor said that the ‘2018 plan’ is under formulation as each department prioritize and plans areas of attention.
Thanking people for all support trust and love, the former police officer urged the people of Union Territory to take up a few responsibilities on themselves to make Puducherry cleaner, healthier , safer, orderly and more economically productive.
