Wind Solar Hybrid Power project for Anantapur
Visakhapatnam: India’s first, Wind Solar Hybrid Power project, an integrated project of both solar and wind energy, is taking shape in Anantapur. The state government recently released a draft of Wind Solar Hybrid Power Policy, which is also first in the country to leverage infrastructure and clean energy. Andhra Pradesh had signed an MoU with Suzlon Energy group for the wind energy projects. Across Andhra Pradesh, around 3,000 mw wind energy projects will come up in the next five years at 20 odd sites. Construction at eight of the 20 sites had already begun. “Around 3,000mw wind energy projects will come up across Andhra Pradesh over the next five years which will garner around Rs 24,000 crore investments. This will also give boost to India’s green and clean energy sector,” said Suzlon Energy chairman Tulsi Tanti.
Suzlon Energy’s proposed unit to manufacture wind turbines at Anantapur is under construction and production will begin shortly. The leading renewable energy group having operations in around 19 countries is investing around '500 crore in Anantapur plant. Mr Tulsi Tanti also added that Suzlon Energy would be using latest emerging technologies to tap power at less wind sites. He said his company will use Vizag port to export their products to south and south east Asian countries. While the products manufactured at their company’s production unit in Mangalore will be exported from west coast, exports to south and south east Asian countries will be made from Vizag port.
Mr Tanti was hopeful of India reaching its set target of 174giga watt wind energy by 2022.He said out the total $500 billion investments in the power sector world over, 62 per cent were in renewable energy and majority of it was in wind energy.
