All parties chant Jai Hanuman in Hunsur

With a thick security cover in place, more than 8,000 people participated in Hanuma Jayanti procession in communally sensitive Hunsur town.

Mysuru: With a thick security cover in place, more than 8,000 people participated in Hanuma Jayanti procession in communally sensitive Hunsur town, covering a distance of four km over six hours, on Saturday.

Soon after elaborate pooja, five idols of lord Hanuman from Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy temple, one from Ramamandir, one from Garadi mane of Karigowda street, one from Shivajyothinagar, and one from Brahmin’s street, were taken in a procession through the town to Hanuma temple. A large number of CCTV cameras were installed to monitor and record the procession with a large posse led by IGP (Southern range) Mr Vipul Kumar and Superintendent of Police Ravi D Chennannanavar maintaining a vigil during the procession. The district administration had warned the committee members that they should take responsibility in the event of any untoward incident or violation during the procession. At the end of the day, no cases were registered, according to Mr Ravi D Chennannanavar and deputy commissioner Mr D Randeep

The deputy commissioner and assistant commissioner had passed an order with several riders, including one on the route, the need to keep politicians away, shun flags of political parties, and prevent parties from trying to gain political mileage out of the event. The officers even banned separate vehicles for leaders and political speeches at the event.

The upshot: leaders of all political parties, predominantly BJP workers led by MP Mr Pratap Simha, former MP Mr A H Vishwanath, Tejaswini V Ramesh, Congress workers led by Hunsur MLA Mr Manjunath, and few others belonging to JD (S) participated in the procession, hailing lord Hanuman.
