Warangal: Chilli farmers in Warangal were left high and dry as unseasonal rain drenched the harvest which had been kept for drying.
Heavy rain lashed several parts of erstwhile Warangal district on Saturday and Sunday, causing severe loss to the farmers raising chilli, paddy and cotton.
Chilli was raised in 550 hectares across the five districts. A quintal of chilli is said to be fetching Rs 9,000 per quintal, up from the rate of Rs 6,000 to Rs 7,000 last year.
The farmers who expected a good crop were distraught after the rains drenched the chilli as the damaged crop would not fetch the same price.
The farmers asked government officials to take steps to buy the drenched chilli from them.
Kamalapur, Narsampet, Bhupalpally, Mahadevpur, Eturnagaram, Parkal, Mangapet, Tadvai, Kannaigudem experienced moderate to heavy rainfall.
