Cops put Bhim Army chief on New Delhi-bound flight
Hyderabad: The police after a night-long drama dropped Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad at the RGI Airport and forced him to leave Hyderabad. He left for Delhi by an early morning flight with a promise to return soon.
Azad was arrested by the Habeebnagar police from Mallepally, kept in a car and driven around. At midnight he was taken to the Bolaram police station for an hour. When police officials tried to serve him notice under Section 41 of the CrPC, he refused to accept it.
Azad contended that he was arrested by the Hyderabad police and the Bolaram police was not part of the commissionerate. Section 41 allows the arrest, without a warrant, of anyone who obstructs a police officer from performing his duty.
Later, the police offered him a room in a guest home situated in Hitec City, which Azad turned down. He was shifted to Hotel Golkonda at 1.30 am where a room was booked for him. He took dinner. In the morning, the police escorted him to the airport at 5 am from where he left for Delhi along with his advocate Mahmood Pracha and his colleagues.
Azad asserted that he will return to Hyderabad very soon. “Tanashahi is at its peak in Telangana. The people’s right to protest has been seized,” he said.
“First our people were thrashed with sticks and then I was arrested. Bahujan Samaj won’t forget this humiliation,” Mr Azad said. Students from various universities demonstrated against the arrest of Mr Azad. A complaint was lodged by Sujit Ravan against the Hyderabad police before the State Human Rights Commission.
