Coimbatore: Tales of landscapes and abstracts on canvas

The exhibition-cum-sale under the theme of landscape 2016' is on till February 28 at Jenneys Residency here.

Coimbatore: A live musical performance by a group of musical artists in a café where the singer holds his microphone passionately while singling every lyric, while there is a group of musicians playing guitar, trumpet, xylophone, drums, violin, harp, flute and bass. Music creates happiness and these are happy artists who adore music so much, says the 65-year-old artist G. Gangatharan. The exhibition-cum-sale under the theme of ‘landscape 2016’ is on till February 28 at Jenneys Residency here.

His paintings are abstracts. The pure abstract form of painting could be seen in the lord Kartikeya’s painting. The hues of colours on canvas in different shades of red, white, black, green, brown, orange and blue have brought a vibrant Karthikeya on his horse taking a walk in a garden.

Gangatharan has used watercolour, oil and acrylic on canvas and all are cool colours like grey, ivory, vermilion, orange and white. Titled under ‘She’ the artists has brought different emotions, expressions and stages of a women and her life transformation. Surprisingly the artist has brushed none other than his wife who is an inspiration for him.

The energetic four-legged horse on canvas motivates the artist to never give up. “Horse is an energetic animal and it never sleeps like humans. Seeing a horse, I get energy vibes, always in full spirit, enthusiastic about life, I feel so strong and it gives a power to my thoughts and confidence level,” gleams Gangatharan.

There are 110 paintings in total ranging from '3000 to '65, 000. Colourful fishes merrily rejoicing in a water tank around tender lilies and lotuses, is among the striking ones. There is a solitary path in the calm winter mornings of the South Asian countries; a sailboat gets back home as the sun sets in the islands of Indonesia; lush green and cool spring of Bali relaxes the mood of tired tourists; Villagers in Vietnam busy in their daily chores, beautiful huts amidst the lush forests of Cambodia and heavy storm and dancing boats in sea struggling for survival are a few among the 66 landscapes painted by the villagers of these countries.

N. Tirunavukarasu, a painting collector from Coimbatore has collected all these paintings from different corners of the world and has displayed them for the exhibition.
