Cops chase away unruly protesters in Salem
Salem: Relatives of a duo, who were arrested in connection with a bomb blast case, staged a road roko, near Salem on Saturday demanding the release the two accused.
Police said that Chelladurai, 28, was booked for involving in various crimes in Salem and he came to court in Salem on February 22, for getting bail. Suddenly, a gang tried to kill him by throwing a bomb.
The gang also hacked the aides of Chelladurai, John and Alagudurai. The Asthampatti police registered a case regarding the incident.
Meanwhile, five persons including Silambarasan and Jeyakumar from Kichipalayam surrendered at Tiruvarur court recently for their involvement in the incident. Police also launched search for few more persons in the case.
Police also arrested two more persons from Kichipalayam, Karthik and Sivaraman, and sent them to remand on Thursday. However, a large number of relatives of the duo claimed that they were innocent and alleged that police fabricated false case against them.
Demanding the release of the duo, they blocked the road at Erumapalayam Pirivu. Police officials rushed to the spot and tried to convince them. When they refused to give up the protest, police resorted to a lathi charge and chased them away from the spot.
Meanwhile, one of the accused Karthik's mother Vannakkili attempted suicide by self-immolation. Police personnel prevented it and rescued her. A case was registered against the protesters and further investigation is on.
