Kochi: Judge hears 800 cases in a day
Kochi: Amidst the heated debate over vacation of judges Justice A. Muhammed Mustaque has considered a record number of cases in a single day. As per the records, he considered more than 800 cases, that too during the summer vacation.
The judge started the hearing at 10.30 am and took a lunch break and sat till 5.30 pm and passed several orders including the landmark order asking CBSE to revoke the bar on wearing veil at exams which was reserved for orders.
In the daily cause list itself, 778 cases were listed for hearing. Seventy odd matters that were mentioned ‘urgent’ at the bar, also came up for hearing. Last year too Justice Mustaque sat till 4.30 pm, the time when the sitting comes to an end, and called every single case. He considered more than 550 cases last year. The judge sat at the court room 1A.
Considering his disposal rate, Justice Mustaque would be considering Targeted For Disposal (TFD) cases once the court reopens after vacation. Justice Mustaque would consider old cases filed before the year 2010. Justice Mustaque was sworn in as an additional judge on 23rd of January, 2014.
This year the high court had set up additional vacational benches for considering case. A division bench even considered a matter on Vishu day.
