Tullur lift irrigation scheme to supply water to temporary Secretariat
Amaravati: The Tullur lift irrigation scheme would supply water to the temporary Secretariat and the CRDA is planning to use water from lift irrigation schemes to quench the thirst of the public.
In all, 11 lift irrigation water schemes are operative in Undavalli, Tullur (2), Anantavaram (2), Yerrabalem, Neerukonda, Krishnayapalem, Nowluru, Bethapudi and Nidamarru in the Amaravati capital region.
Earlier, these LI schemes helped in the cultivation of various crops, but after stopping of cultivation due to pooling the farmlands, these water schemes became inactive.
The CRDA first decided to supply water to the temporary Secretariat from Rayapudi, but due to shortage of water it decided to take water from Tullur LI scheme.
According to reports, nearly 22,000 government employees will shift to the temporary Secretariat and nearly 5,000 visitors are expected every day.
Besides this, the state government decided to conduct Assembly sessions in the temporary Secretariat complex this winter. So, water supply is a Herculean task to the government. The CRDA primarily decided to use the LI schemes as drinking water resources.
The LI schemes helped cultivate a number of crops in the capital region for the past few decades. Barring Undavalli and Penumaka, majority farmers in the rest of the villages of the Amaravati Capital Region had stopped cultivation after offering farmlands under Land Pooling Scheme (LPS).
In all, 13,537 farmers had benefited and 25,507 acres of farmlands got water for irrigation purposes with the LI projects for the past 40 years. The oldest LI scheme was started in 1954 in Undavalli and LI schemes in Yerrabalem, Neerukonda, Krishnayapalem, Bethapudi, Nowluru, Nidamarru, Rayapudi, Anantavaram, Tullur and Vykunthapuram were started later.
Neerukonda, Krishnayapalem, Nowluru, Bethapudi and Nida-marru LI schemes use water of Kondaveeti Vagu to supply irrigation water to farmlands in the villages and further used as a barrier to save the villages during floods. There are two LI schemes in Tullur. So, the CRDA is planning to supply water to the temporary Secretariat from the two schemes.
The CRDA sources said that a plan is under process to get water from Tullur LI scheme to the temporary Secretariat.
