325 feet pedestrian suspension bridge at Karnataka garden in Ooty
Ooty: The near 325 feet long pedestrian suspension bridge for an aerial walk, is soon to become new tourist attraction at the recently established Karnataka Siri Horticulture Garden (KSHG) at Fern Hill here.
The KSHG, a public garden spread across 38 acres, considered as a gift of Karnataka to Ooty, came into being in 2018.
Though in the infant stage of development, it has, nevertheless, begun to attract tourists. The KSHG administration which opened up the upper reaches of the garden to public last year, focused on developing the lower reaches of the park along the Ooty-Avalanchee road by adding fountains and water bodies and developing a herbal garden in the foothills portion of the garden.
They also decided to erect a pedestrian suspension bridge over the valley between the east and western part of the garden. While the height of the suspension bridge varies between 80 to 90 feet, its length runs up to 325 feet with a width of five feet.
B.K. Krishnamurthy, assistant director of Horticulture at KSHG said Rs 3.50 crore has been allotted for the erection of this suspension bridge and works are nearing completion. It will be opened to tourists some time after July, he added.
